Positions available: Firefighter, Medical First Responder (MFR), and Firefighter-EMR
Firefighters will be required to complete the following training: Firefighter I and II (NFPA 1001), Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072), Incident Command System 100, Traffic Control Seminar, Basic Life Support, Advanced First Aid, and any additional courses required based on operational needs. As a Firefighter, you will assist with patient care at emergency scenes within a limited medical scope of practice. These members provide supportive medical care under the direction of a licensed Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or higher-level medical provider. This training is not required at the time of application, but is considered an asset.
Medical First Responder (MFR) will be requred to complete the following training: Basic Life Support (BLS) (minimum), Advanced First Aid (minimum), Emergency Medical Responder (upon review). As licensed medical responders, MFR's are expected to practice within their scope of training and are professionally accountable for the care they provide until higher-level medical personnel arrive or patient care is transferred. This training is not required at the time of application, but is considered an asset.
Firefighter-EMR's are dually trained members who possess all firefighter training and are licensed Emergency Medical Responders. Alongside our MFR team, Firefighter-EMRs provide basic emergency medical care at medical incidents, motor vehicle collisions, fires, and other emergency scenes until higher-level medical personnel arrive or patient care is transferred. As licensed medical responders, Firefighter-EMRs are expected to practice within their scope of training and are professionally accountable for the care they provide. This training is not required at the time of application, but is considered an asset.
HFD trains every Wednesday evening from 7-10pm, rotating between Fire-specific training, MFR-specific training, and Mutual (all members) training. We ask that members attend 50% of training throughout the calendar year.
HFD operates on an on-call basis, which requires members to monitor an app on their phones for dispatching. Members are asked to attend, if available. There is no set schedule for emergency calls. We ask that members attend at least 50% of emergency calls.

Note: HFD accepts applications on an ongoing basis though out the year. We generally hold one hiring process a year.
