What does a Lock Box do for you?

How Does a Lock Box Work?

When responding to an emergency and confronted with a locked entry door,  Firefighters and First Responders will be able to access entry keys located in the lockbox.  Placing keys in this tamper resistant box minimizes delay in gaining access to the building and eliminates damage that may be caused by a forcible entry.  After the emergency, Fire Department personnel will replace the keys in the Lock Box and ensure it is secured.

Important Information

When in place, keyed lockboxes cannot be used by non Headingley Fire Department personnel to gain non-emergency access to the building.  Property owners do not have access to the contents of the lock box after it is installed.  Only the Headingley Fire Department have keys to the Lock box.

What if I change my Locks?

If you change your locks or need to update a key, please complete the LOCK BOX - CHANGE OF KEY form and we will contact you to make arrangement to meet you at your property and access the box.

How Do I Get a Lock Box?

If you are interested in getting a lock box installed at your location, please download and print the lockbox application form.  Take or send this form to a locksmith.  The locksmith will complete the form online.

Why Should I Consider Getting A Lock Box?

If you have a monitored fire alarm system in Headingley, and HFD receives a report of its activation, We are required to ensure there is no fire at the location.   HFD will exhaust all available options to not damage your property.  However, if you can not be contacted and we cannot verify there is not a fire at the location we may need to forcibly enter your home or business.   Forcible entry may/will damage your door or windows.
